Abstract

The destruction of Atlantic Forest is one of the most alarming problems in world ecological conservation. To preserve this biome and its native species, it is necessary not only to conserve natural remnants but also to restore already deforested areas. For this purpose, follow-up studies of long-term sustainability in forest restoration areas are needed. Genetic diversity is one of the main bases of environmental conservation. Besides restoring floristic diversity, restoration projects also need to equate genetic diversity restoration in these communities. This project aims to pursue a careful study on diversity conditions and genetic structure in areas of forest restoration in Semideciduous Seasonal Atlantic Forest, comparing these conditions with those found in natural remnants. In this project our target species is Centrolobium tomentosum, a native tree with recognized medicinal importance. Moreover, in population genomics approach, using AFLPS and SNPs markers, we intend to search target regions in the genome that are under selection in anthropic environments, and thus that might be important to individual survival in disturbed environments
