Abstract

This project proposes to investigate the educational strategies developed by families living in Ermelino Matarazzo, a neighborhood of East St. Paul. It seeks to analyze how to develop such strategies in a context marked by the emergence of a school, characterized by the recent arrival of several private schools in a neighborhood of popular origin. The research objectives are to understand the emergence of a school district and the logic of educational strategies developed by families seeking public and private schools. The methodological procedures include conducting interviews with principals and parents and questionnaires with students of high school, a public school, and a private school. The results should allow a better understanding of the emergence of private schools in this popular neighborhood, any leakage of public schools, and the development of new ambitions and educational strategies in families who have experienced an increase in income. It is hoped that these results contribute to the development of new indicators, in order to support public policies in education, geared to meet the expectations and demands of families of popular origin.(AU)
