Prognosis of patients with Crohn's Disease who underwent hemicolectomy or total coletomy in Gastrocentro - UNICAMP: report of 28 cases

Abstract

Crohn's disease affects the quality of life of patients directly. Around 50% of these patients will undergo surgery in the first 10 years of disease to minimize the impacts of the disease. It is known that the involvement of the colon is the worst prognosis. Objective: it is to compare the outcome of patients with Crohn's disease with involvement of the colon that was not submitted to colectomy for those undergoing total colectomy or hemicolectomy. Method and analysis: it will be researching all the information of all patients with Crohn's disease with involvement of the colon in the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic by reviewing the records filed in Gastrocentro-UNICAMP. The evaluation compared the prognosis will be held between three groups (1. Did not undergo colectomy; 2. Hemicolectomy; 3. Total colectomy). Personal preoperative history will be evaluated, surgical indication, hospitalization time, symptoms, presence of bridged taps, time of onset of recurrence, type of recurrence, complications, and medication use. Expected results: patients undergoing hemicolectomy have a better prognosis than those who underwent total colectomy. And these two groups have a better prognosis than patients who did not undergo colectomy.(AU)
