Abstract

Due to the existence of an intrinsic renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in adipocytes, much has been speculated about the possible involvement of this system in the regulation of adipose tissue metabolism. Our purpose is to investigate how the different steps of blocking local RAS may influence the metabolic capabilities of isolated adipocytes. For this, we'll treat isolated fat cells with aliskiren (renin inhibitor), captopril (ACE inhibitor) and losartan (AT1 receptor blocker) at nontoxic doses. After 24 hours of incubation, adipocytes will be tested for their lipolytic capacity and ability to convert D-[U-14C] glucose into 14CO2 or incorporating it into lipids.
