Abstract

Among the many expressions of depressive disorders, several can be found associated with an increased incidence and recurrence of depression in pregnancy and postpartum periods. These periods are marked by hormonal, social and family changes, and female identity. The "Depression Scale Edinburgh Postnatal (EPDS)" is the self-assessment tool most often used to track depression after pregnancy. Brazilian studies using this scale to estimate the prevalence of postpartum depression (PPD) is between 7.3% and 43%among mothers of infants. The present study aims to assess the incidence of PPD in mothers of infants participating in an extension project of attention essential to child development, linking the presence/absence of the DPP with beliefs about educational practices. Will participate 80 mothers of babies from 45 days old. EPDS and will apply to "Parental Beliefs Scale and Practices of Care (E-SCLC) in early childhood." The data from the EPDS describe the presence/absence of depression and the range of maternal beliefs about childrearing practices. Afterward data from both instruments will be correlated and statistical analyzes of group comparisons. ( AU)
