Abstract Biotechnological tools, such as the early selection of hybrids by molecular markers, mapping traits of interest and gene expression studies, are being incorporated into Citrus classic breedingprograms breeding in order not only to obtain new materials / varieties, but also to expand studies of genetic and disease resistance. The use of molecular markers in classical genetic improvement has enabled a significant reduction in the selection cycle, and also has made it possible to circumvent some biological characteristics, such as polyembryony, incompatibility, among others, considered the greatest obstacles to the improvement of citrus. The 'Centro de Citricultura' has a broad breeding program that generated in recent years, several populations of scion and rootstock. Phenotypic evaluations and genetic studies, such as obtaining genetic maps and QTL studies, have enabled the pre - selection of some promising materials, mainly for resistance to major diseases of the crop. This study proposes to evaluate a population obtained by backcrossing the hybrid TMxLP 163, selected from the breeding program which is presenting resistant to citrus variegated chlorosis (CVC), with sweet orange and generate molecular markers with a view to genetic mapping, the CVC resistant genes. | |
