Abstract

Despite the intensive care unit is a totally different environment from other hospital units, and considered of high complexity and technology is implied the need for human interaction during the care provide, valuing the humanized care in terminal life. Palliative care is premised on promoting relief of pain and other symptoms of stress, reaffirm life and regard death as a natural process. This philosophy does not anticipate nor postpones death, but aims to integrate psychosocial and spiritual care, offer a support system that assists the patient to live as actively as possible until his death. In this qualitative study have been aimed at understanding the meaning assigned by students to the experience of caring for patients in palliative care in adult intensive care unit. The study will be conducted by the Course of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine of Botucatu, UNESP. Shall be considered eligible for the study students enrolled in undergraduate degree in nursing who have taken the course nursing care of critically ill patients. Data collection will be conducted through semi-structured interview, which will be recorded and later transcribed. The data will be organized and analyzed by adopting the strategic methodology of the Collective Subject Discourse (CSD).
