Abstract

This research project is related to the experimental investigation of the flow in a radial diffuser in the presence of the fluid-structure interaction phenomenon. It is proposed a modification of an existing experimental setup for characterizing the flow in a radial diffuser with a moving frontal disc. The flow will be characterized by measuring the distance between discs, the pressure acting on the frontal disc surface, and the Reynolds number of the flow. The flow will be studied for Reynolds numbers ranging from 1,000 to 10,000, which involves laminar and turbulent flows, in geometry with a diameter ratio (ratio between the frontal disc and anterior disc orifice diameters) equal to 1.5. The fluid-structure interaction problem will be studied for flows with sinusoidal type mass flow rates.(AU)
