Abstract Bothropic snake venoms are a complex mixture of substances with different properties (mainly proteolytic, hemorrhagic and coagulant) that exert local action producing intense pain, edema, hemorrhage and necrosis, associated with systemic damage as coagulopathy, systemic bleeding and renal failure. Bothrops fonsecai, inhabits a limited area of Araucaria forest (Araucaria augustifolia) in Atlantic forest. Although poorly studied, this venom is constitued by essencial compounds to biological effects caused by snake venom as phospholipase, metalloprotease and serineprotease. The aim of this study is to evaluate the biological effects in vivo (hemorrhagic and edematogenic activity), ex vivo assays (neuromuscular and miotoxic activities) and in vitro assays (measurement of coagulant, phospholipase e creatine kinase activities) caused by B. fonsecai venom and its neutralization by comercial and specific antivenoms, such as the qualitative analisys of venom:antivenoms bidings by immunoblotting. | |
