Abstract

Advanced liver disease caused by hepatitis C virus is the leading cause of liver transplantation in Western countries. Disease progression is particularly aggressive in transplanted patients, with rapid evolution towards fibrosis. In patients with established cirrhosis and graft failure, retransplantation is the only therapeutic option. Retransplantation in individuals with hepatitis C recurrence is controversial, seeing that in some studies it represents a risk factor for mortality. Several scores have been designed in order to predict survival and aid in retransplantation indication. Recently, a score specifically designed for patients with hepatitis C has been published. Objectives: To identify survival predictive factors in patients submitted to retransplantation for hepatitis C recurrence; to validate and, depending on the results, to modify a survival score in this population. Methods: Retrospective analysis of retransplantation cases due to hepatitis C recurrence at Paul Brousse Hospital. Donor and recipients' characteristics from the first and the second transplants will be revised, and patient and graft survival from the second transplant will be established. Primary outcome will be survival in 1, 3, 5, and 10 years, and the variables will be analyzed as survival predictive factors through univariate and multivariate analysis. A previously published survival score will be validated and its modification may be proposed according to results. (AU)
