Abstract This research is focused on the musical production of the musician Egberto Gismonti, between 1969 and 1978. During this 9 years, Gismonti has released 12 albuns with different elements and musical aspects. Although Gismonti is recognized worldwide as one of the most important representatives of the Brazilian instrumental music, we note that his early works is curiosly marked by experiences within the popular song. This research aims to verify the relationship between his musicals projects represented in the albums, with the cultural context of this years, marked mainly by the drain of the "national popular" ideal, by the gradual process of deconstruction of the popular song, by the dictatorship in its most repressive moment and the growth of music industry. We seek to unravel the construction of the musical personality, looking to study its transition from song to instrumental music and the way the artist promoted the link between the languages of classical music and popular, musically translated representations of tradition and modernity in his compositions and arrangements by adopting, at times, experimental procedures. | |
