SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE? - THE DISCOURSE OF COMPETENT BODY IN THE CONTEMPORARY TELEVISION

Abstract

Dicourses built on the body dancing, devoted to making the competition while a spectacle and entertainment, are dotting the praxis of contemporary television media. The central problem of this research is the action of the televisual media is meant by "competent body" programs that transform the selection process of dance competitions in media products. The hypothesis is that television programs that make up this segment become, themselves, in the media of fundamental values of the neoliberalism. We defined as object of the research North American program So You Think You Can Dance? (2005-2011), who produced replicates the world, of which two lusophone versions also make up the object: the Brazilian, Se ela dança, eu danço (2010-2011), and Portuguese, Achas que sabes dançar? (2010). We point out some issues that will guide this research, focusing on ethical and communication points involved in it: - a) it would be possible to relate, in the twenty-first century, the televised entertainment competition, which has as its theme the dance, with the dance that happens off television? b) the discourses practices that programs like 'reality show' for new talent establish themselves produce what might be called 'global sociability dancing'? c) you can search for connections between the social constitution of the body and Dancing in the production of television discourse and biopolitics of competence for competition? d) would be the media visibility of such 'competent body' an abyssal line production of invisibility for the dance that it does not fit? Given this situation, become imperative to deepen the knowledge of the television medium in order to advance the discussion of their role in communication area, the authors Arlindo Machado, Muniz Sodre and João Freire Filho, in that communication makes for the dance, through the theory corpomídia, by Helena Katz and Christine Greiner, considering the specifics of today's consumer society, discussed by Nestor Garcia Canclini and Bauman Zigmunt, of biopolitical regimes of the body, the thought of Michel Foucault, by readings taken Agambem Giorgio and Roberto Esposito, and society of the spectacle, from the arguments of Guy Debord, including the regimes of visibility that has to be problematized with the epistemological proposals of Boaventura de Souza Santos.
