Abstract

The phytobenthos are substantial producer organisms in the marine ecosystems, representing ecological importance for its maintenance. The algae act as shelter and refuge to a very diverse and abundant fauna, which represents many of the trophic levels of the marine food webs. The interaction established between these two components, associated to the biotic and abiotic factors that regulate it, characterizes a Phytal Ecosystem. Among the phytal invertebrate fauna, the malacofauna has a prominent position both regarding to the abundance and diversity. The gastropods are predominant, and act as important energy assimilators in this environment. There are few studies conducted in Brazil evidencing the fauna of phytal gastropods and, even though some of the taxa are recurrent and abundant, such as the genera Anachis H. Adams & A. Adams, 1853 and Eulithidium Pilsbry, 1898 (= Tricolia Risso, 1826), the diversity of taxa found is large, and the knowledge about most of the species is still very restricted. Therefore, the aim of this study will be to contribute in the field of taxonomy of gastropods associated to seabeds of the brown algae from the genus Sargassum. The material studied was collected in São Sebastião Channel and in beaches from the coast of Ubatuba, SP. This study will be conducted through the analysis of the material under stereomicroscope, identification of the individuals, by using the appropriate literature, and illustration of the best specimens by photographing them, or through SEM. The material studied will be deposited in the Museum of Zoology at Unicamp. (AU)
