Abstract

The aim of this Project is to study the representation of memory in the fictional discourse of the Canadian write Alice Munro and its link with the process of search for identity by the characters in the narratives of Lives of Girls and Women, published in 1971. The narratives give shape to a memory that is not only used to retain information, but also to give a new significance to the narrator's life and to promote the re-configuration of the facts. Therefore, the return to the past encourages the reinterpretation of the facts and the emergence of new meanings which were not considered at the time, what influences the formation of the identity of an adult narrator who chooses stories that are distant from the enunciation moment.
