Abstract

This research aims to investigate the presence and circulation of the French fictional prose in Rio de Janeiro in the eightieth, having as basis two magazines edited by the brothers Laemmert: the Correio das Modas (1838-1839) and the Novo Correio das Modas (1852-1854). The wardrobe occupies an important space in both publications, which presented different costumes copied from French newspapers, specially the Journal des Tailleurs. The fictional prose published in these Brazilian magazines was also imported from France, mostly from magazines such as the Journal des Demoiselles, Lanterne Magique and Le Compilateur.I am interested in identifying the French sources from these magazines and compare the way they were published in Europe and in Brazil. I also intend to compare the Brazilian translations with the original texts and see if there were modifications, cuts and increases on these translations. (AU)
