Abstract

This study evaluates the effect of experimental resins containing known inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), the green tea catechins (EGCG) or chlorhexidine (CHX) on inhibition of gelatinases. Experimental copolymers are prepared by combining bis-GMA with the diluent TEGDMA (70/30 mol%). The copolymer contains embedded EGCG or CHX 2% by weight or not (control). Samples containing EGCG or CHX concentrated 100X storage may be obtained from the polymerized resin experimental specimens (n = 3) in deionized water (1 mL) after 24 h. The effect of the action of the inhibitors will be checked by zymography (n = 5) and confirmed by an immunological assay specific activity of MMPs -2 and -9 (n = 5). The data will be evaluated by appropriate statistical test (p <0.05). (AU)
