Abstract

Alcohol is the most consumed legal drug in virtually every region of the world, and has been recognized as a major public health problem, since it not only affects those who drink, but society as a whole. Alcohol abuse can cause a lot of health problems, including behavioral disorders, violence, suicide, traffic accidents, sexually transmitted diseases and drug addiction. Binge drinking, or episodes of heavy drinking, is characterized by the consumption of at least four measures of alcohol in a single occasion for women, and five for men. This type of behavior is more common among young people and is especially common at weekends, before going out, a phenomenon known as "pre-drinking". It is during this phenomenon that alcohol and other drug abuse occurs, which increases the risk of accidents, violence and risk behaviors. This leads to a need to understand the problem related to alcohol consumption among teenagers, and this study's main objective is to identify and assess the main patterns of alcohol and other drug use during "pre-drinking." To achieve these goals, an epidemiological study was decided upon, using the portal survey inquiry technique to measure blood alcohol concentration and questionnaires on drug use and other risky behaviors.
