Abstract

Due to the commercial and industrial importance of olefin metathesis products, a deeper understanding and improvement of the catalysts' properties is of interest. Nowadays, carbine coordinated ruthenium complexes, called Grubbs catalysts, show good yield and good selectivity for several metathesis reactions, though, product contamination is still a challenge. This project proposes the investigation of immobilization routes and the evaluation of their impact on the catalytic activity. Two main strategies will be addressed: a traditional one, by encapsulating the Grubbs catalyst on microporous silica; and an innovative one, which matches the requirements of recycling and low contamination level with new possibilities of controlling the local environment using the recent discovered stripped gold nanoparticles.
