Abstract

This current research aims to think about the historicity of some particular concepts, like "Monarquia Universal" (Universal Monarchy) and "Império" (Empire)/Imperium, under the catholic Polity Culture of modern Portugal. For that we will assay the treatises made by portuguese scholars in exile during the Iberian Union (1580-1640), searching to identify the means and mechanisms even for supporting or challenging the Philippine Dynasty over Portugal and the colonial lands, already threatened at that time. Conceiving literacy as an assembly of multi-faceted practices and ideas, we will try to notice how far the exílio/desterro (exile/banishment) interferes or not in the making of concurrent discourses, keeping or changing meanings of the policy vocabulary according the demands from each moment in the thoughts about the Philippine rule over Portugal.
