Abstract

Satellite cells have been studied and showing to be great research field. Thus the actual project have a purpose to investigate it. Thirty one elderly subjects participate of this study (63.9±4.1 y; 69.82±13.19 Kg; 1.62±0.11 m) that were allocated in 1 of 4 differents groups: resistance training (RT, n=9, 2x/week performing leg-press with 4 sets of 10 repetitions and 70-80% of 1-RM and 60s rest), endurance training (ET, n=7, 2x/week walking or running for 40-50 min, at 50-80% of VO2peak), concurrent training (CT, n=8, RT+ET, 2x/week performing RT and e 2x/week performing ET) and a control group (CG, n=7, no exercise). Assessments of alimentary habits, respiratory capacity (VO2) and strength test were performed before in the middle and after 12 weeks of intervention. The muscle biopsies, quadriceps cross sectional area (qCSA) and body composition were performed only before and after. All variables were compared by two way ANOVA (group vs. time) and one way ANOVA was performed to compare all variables in the pre moment. The P level was fixed in P<0.05. Our results showed that strenght and qCSA increase significantly to RT and CT after intervention (P=0.0004 and P<0.0001, respectively). No significant interaction was observed to VO2peak (P=0.8279), threshold limiar (P=0.0642), RCP (P=0.4340), alimentary habits (kilocal, CHO, PRO and FAT (P=0.4837; P=0.9747; P=0.6191; P=0.5889, respectively) and body composition (% fat mass, fat mass and lean mass, P= 0.1766; P= 0.2269 and P= 0.0741 respectively). The biopsies were not analized yet.
