Abstract

Photography as an archive document does not get the proper and necessary treatment as other archival documents, and therefore the organization of photographic collections demands and presupposes reflections-based archival procedures. We focus on the study case of Jezualdo D' Oliveira museum in the municipality of Mirassol - SP, which has under its custody photographic collections of the city, thus characterizing a peculiar organization . These images are now museum pieces, but they are documents produced by Mirassol's City Hall and City Council. Due to the museological classification, several exhibitions, and various mishandling, their organization was broken up losing the administrative link. So, the project's main objective is to emphasize the importance of photographies organizing as archive documents and to reiterate the readings of the area discussing methods and procedures adopted for the organizations of this kind of document highlighting the importance that organized photographic records offer to the institutions. Finally, we propose a reflection on the custody of archival documents in museums, broaching the photographic collections.(AU)
