Abstract

This research aims to investigate the status of the body in the work of Jacques Lacan from the years 1959 to 1964. Such historic snippet takes into account the relevant turn of Lacanian thought - powered by the metapsicologic review carried out by him - and his clinical implications arising from this. Thus, the basic bibliography is composed of the following seminars: L'éthique de la psychanalyse (1959-60), Le transfert (1960-61), L'identification (1961-62), L'angoisse (1962-63) e Les quatre concepts fondamentaux de la psychanalyse (1964). It will undertake, thus, analyses and interpretations of such works with the scope of clarifying the main differences of body conception previous to that period, whose influence of structuralism was prevalent, and also what is the place assigned by Lacan to the body during this period of his work here mentioned. This way, this survey was split in six different times - interwoven - in the search of further elaboration of the studies of each of the five seminars aiming the thesis composition. The method consists of a bibliographic survey - both of Lacan's work and commentators' - which will enable a better analysis of the object of study.
