Abstract

The study of the floristic composition and phytosociological structure is an important tool for characterizing plant communities, and a proper analysis of patterns of distribution and richness of their species. In São Paulo withdrawals from the arboreal component of the Tropical Rain Forest were the targets of many jobs in the last decade. However, despite a large volume of data produced for training forestry, contained little more specific and detailed analysis of the contribution floristic and structural importance of its most significant families as Myrtaceae, Fabaceae, Rubiaceae and Lauraceae. Thus, this study fits into the context of a broader project to evaluate the floristic composition, structure and functioning of the dense rain forest of the Atlantic Picinguaba and Santa Virginia State Park of Serra do Mar (FAPESP / Biota 10/50811 -7 and 03/12595-7), has as main objective the analysis of the floristic composition and structure of the family Lauraceae an altitudinal gradient in the dense rain forest in São Paulo state. This will be compiled survey data from fifteen (15 hectares) made for the tree component of the State Park of Serra do Mar in different faces, considering the richness, diversity and structural importance of family in the community. It is intended to examine also the spatial distribution of its species, as well as the relations of floristic similarity of family over this altitudinal gradient by means of multivariate analysis.
