Abstract

The project aims to address the use of humorous images from the internet - known as "internet memes" - as tools of cultural dissemination, inside and outside the virtual space. The project's objective is to study the process of creation, alteration and replication of these so-called "Internet memes" and the discursive functioning of this process, as well as to understand their relevance and effectiveness as a tool to disseminate their own cultural elements of the Internet. This work will be through the analysis of Orkut communities. To this end, I will dwell on the following communities: GIVE (short for "Gifs, Images, and funny videos.") and Marvel VS DC VS etc, which will form the corpus of discursive analysis of words, speeches, and the subject position of the members of the community through their memes, created or imported, which are used in topics and their permutations.
