Abstract

The purpose of this project is to analyze discourses on reading and representations of the Brazilian reader in current humorous genres, such as cartoons, comic strips, jokes, and memes, obtained by consulting the search systems of newspapers and magazines with a large national circulation and through virtual searches on websites, blogs, and social networks specialized both in the dissemination of humorous texts and in the theme of reading. Reading, given its symbolic value, traditionally positive, is not, in general, the focus of humor. Based on this assumption, we intend to survey humoristic texts that directly or indirectly approach the theme of reading in order to deduce what is generally said about this practice in these texts governed by the logic of irony, derision, and criticism. This analysis will be guided theoretically and methodologically by principles and concepts from Discourse Analysis, cultural history, and reading and humor studies. With this analysis, we hope to contribute to the studies of reading, by dedicating ourselves to a very specific set of data, such as those of the humoristic field and with the proposed objective, which still does not have among us large and systematized studies.
