Maternal near miss: the experiences of women cared in public health and private health

Abstract

It is estimated that approximately 40% of women experience some form of morbidity during pregnancy, childbirth or the postpartum period, many of which are avoidable. The severe maternal morbidity, also known as near miss, is a matter of significant importance to public health. Get testimonials from patients who suffered near miss has the potential to improve the quality of supportive care. In this context, the question is: women who have had such an experience can recognize the violation of their rights, to the extent that their health needs were not met? Thus, this research aims to understand the limits and possibilities in the recognition of health needs and recognition of human rights by women who experienced maternal near miss in public and private health system. Treat will be a qualitative study, with the methodological framework of oral history. Will be eligible for the study women who had experienced the near miss last year, selected from the records of two institutions (public and private). These will be contacted and invited to participate in the study. The data will be obtained through interviews guided by open questions.The total number of participants will be defined based on repetition and saturation of the speeches. The research project will comply with Resolution No. 196/1996 and will be submitted to the Committee for Research Ethics responsible. Participants must sign a Letter of Consent authorizing their participation in the study.
