Abstract The knowledge of the species of the family Isotomidae (Collembola) is still very limited in Brazil, especially in places where there are no experts in the group. Therefore, the knowledge is still restricted to only two states (Rio de Janeiro and Amazonas) with biodiversity studies conducted only in their capitals or nearby cities. Consequently, the state of Sao Paulo has not yet been granted a large study of biodiversity and distribution of these species and need to fill this knowledge gap. This project aims not only to reduce this breach as well as increase the diversity of Isotomidae species. It is important that this is the first step to install a knowledge center of Collembola in the MZUSP, which has so far not had any kind of contribution to this group. This initiative still has the opportunity to create in long-term, interdisciplinary projects as well as encouraging students, both graduate and postgraduate, to develop their projects with these animals that are often overlooked and not given the necessary attention.
