Abstract

The urban growth on the margins of aquatic ecosystems is causing degradation of water quality leading to artificial eutrophication. This process generates significant losses to human society, particularly associated with public health problems, reduction of irrigation potential, reduction of fishing, bathing and numerous possibilities for use by citizens. The monitoring of water resources is an important instrument of knowledge, over time, the quality of the water and the evolution of the occupied area. Given this context, the project aims to monitor, during 2012-2013, the water quality of two lakes located in the city of Ribeirão Preto, which are the Parque dos Lagos and Recreio Internacional, discharge areas of the Guarani aquifer.
