Abstract

This project proposes to study the history of the Museum of Art of São Paulo with an attempt to delineate the artistic mission of the museum's first seat, at the 7 de Abril street, as series of activities, exhibitions and artistic and cultural actions, which was forming a cultural center, a new museum. Throughout the analises of Pietro Maria Bardi's discource, taking as sources magazines edited by him and in which he participated, such as Quadrante, Habitat, and specially the Mirante das Artes, this research work seeks to understand Bardi's museologic conception, his theoretical grounds, MASP's inovative caracter at this inicial phase, the main consisting pillars, as well as the idea of art education present in the Instituto de Arte Contemporânea.
