Abstract

Hyphessobrycon Durbin is a rich genera in species of Characidae, with several of them described nearly a century ago, with little taxonomic information available today. Hyphessobrycon flammeus Myers is a small Hyphessobrycon this situation. Moreover, it is a species of freshwater fish in Brazil's endangered, requiring therefore a more accurate knowledge of their taxonomic identity, and also a updated of the geographic distribution of populations. An analysis of the taxonomy of this species, by morphometry, meristic, and general morphology, seeking information about the distribution of their populations is of fundamental importance for the establishment of public policies aimed at conservation of this taxon, as recommended in guidelines for conservation and restoration biodiversity in the São Paulo State.(AU)
