Abstract

Rare semileptonic weak B decays will be studied in view of possible new physics contributions, which may originate in supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model or in extra dimensions, and of the current experimental program at the LHC (LHCb Collaboration). The focus is on specific decay processes, expected to be experimentally clean though rare. The weak decay amplitudes in the Standard Model and corrections to Wilson coefficients are one ingredient and have been studied by the candidate during his thesis work. Many hadronic inputs, however, have only been phenomenologically constrained. Various (transition) form factors are only poorly known and their precise determination is crucial. In this project, transitions from Bs and Bc mesons to light(er) pseudoscalar and vector mesons, such as the Ds, Ds^*, Phi and K^*, will be revisited in the framework of QCD Dyson-Schwinger equations (DSE) and Bethe-Salpeter (BS) amplitudes based on earlier work in the impulse approximation. The DSEs provide a nonperturbative formulation of QCD and can be used to study the nonperturbative dynamics of the heavy flavor sector more systematically. These effects are commonly encoded in the said heavy-to-light transition form factors, decay constants and effective couplings. The main aim is the use of improved transition form factors to calculate physical observables for the rare semileptonic decay channels considered, such as branching ratios, forward-backward asymmetries and lepton-polarization asymmetries.
