Abstract

Nowadays there is an interest to develop and improve synthetic biomaterials that can be used in the replacement of pathological bone tissue, or that can act as osteoinductors and/or osteoconductors in the process of bone repair in the event of fractures or congenital defects with severe bone tissue loss. Because of that, the usage of materials formed by extracellular matrix elements (MECa) have been largely recommended in the orthopedic, and odontology areas as well as in reconstruction plastic surgery. Their advantages are in the constitution of collagen that presents the tissue cicatrization capacity besides been able to suffer alterations on its composition by chemical changes resulting in matrices charged positive and negatively. Such alterations can improve the physiological and dielectrics properties of (MECa). The objective of this research is to evaluate the process of newly formed bone during the repair of bone defects using native (natural) and anionic (treats with alkaline hydrolysis) grafts of collagen derived from bovine intestine serous. Fifty Wistar rats will be used on this study. They will be submitted to a surgical procedure to cause them a critical bone defect in the calvaria (brain-pan). The bone defect will be filled with four types of collagen membranes native (natural) mineralized native, anionic and mineralized anionic. After two and six weeks from surgery, the from the receptive areas of the implants of the membranes on the brain-pan will be submitted to qualitative and quantitative analyses. Keywords: collagen, osseointegration, extracellular matrix
