Abstract

Developments in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) procedures have raised questions about the physical characterization of interactions between biological systems and equipment. Surface electromyography, with pairs of electrodes, used to measure the evoked potential in most of experimental protocols do not express the overall pattern of muscle activation. Employing a neuronavigation software and a system of high density surface electromyography (HDsEMG), this project aims to describe the relationship between the orientation of the TMS coil while applying the pulse, and the recruitment of abductor policis brevis motor units. The main goal is to contribute to a better understanding of how different orientations of the electromagnetic fields generated by the stimulation device interfere with motor evoked potentials, calling attention to another parameter to be observed in procedures involving the technique of TMS.
