Abstract

The ostomy patient is one who underwent bypass surgery bowel preparation with a ostomy, which involves the opening of the abdominal wall and intestinal segments or urinary tract, to divert the fecal or urine out of the body. There are many complications related to ostomy, including lack of adaptation to the plate of ostomy, peristomal dermatitis, ischemic necrosis, retraction, prolapse, stenosis, peristomal fistulas, peristomal hernia and even cancer. It is known that changes in nutritional status may contribute to increased morbidity and mortality of patients. Therefore, malnutrition or predisposition to obesity several serious complications, including a tendency to infection, impaired wound healing and others. The aim of this study is to evaluate the nutritional and socioeconomic profile of ostomy patients enrolled in the Center for Ostomy Care through the Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) and anthropometric measurements. Study quantitative, cross-sectional epidemiological design and application of descriptive epidemiology. It is expected this study to characterize nutritional and socioeconomic profile of these patients, whose data are scarce, and correlate with possible comorbidities, aiming at the prevention of harm to health.
