Abstract This research project intends to analyze the String Quartet no. 3 (1916) of the composer Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959).Through analytical techniques appropriate to the Villa-Lobos' music, we aim to observe internal aspects of the composition itself (form, motive, harmony and texture) and the intertextual relationships with composers with whom Villa-Lobos shared problems related to harmonic and formal organization in the transition from the nineteenth to the twentieth century. Among these musicians, we can emphasize those who have influenced the formative years of Villa-Lobos, such as D'Indy, Franck, Debussy and Stravinsky and also his contemporaries, who contributed with different solutions for different aspects of musical structure, such as Schoenberg, Webern , Bartók, Milhaud, among others. | |
