Abstract

In this project the incorporation of an antitumor drug (vincristine) trapped in echogenic liposomes (ELIP)and embedded into polyelectrolyte multilayer films (PEM), will be studied. These films will be obtained by layer-by-layer technique. The aim is to check the possibilities of incorporating this drug to the films (trapped in ELIP or not) and to characterize the films obtained through the techniques of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), profilometry (to check thickness and roughness of the films), incorporation of dyes (to check the homogeneity of the films and location of ionic terminals) and testing of drug release in PBS (phosphate buffered saline). These films have potential application for functionalization of immune system cells (eg T cells and macrophages). For this purpose, the period of study abroad will also be held in the training culture of these cell types for subsequent functionalization of the same. Therefore, the PhD sandwich will be extremely important to complement studies that have been conducted so far in Brazil (FCF / USP-SP and FEQ / UNICAMP-SP). The center proposed for the PhD sandwich is the Massachussets Institute of Technology (MIT-USA) which is a center of excellence in teaching and research in the area of this project. (AU)
