Abstract

This project is part of the research "The multiple faces of the Republic: disputes of power and routinization of the political practices in Mato Grosso - 1889-1917", that aims at analyzing the relations of power and the exercise of political practices undertaken by the groups who disputed the political control of Mato Grosso, during the years of 1889 and 1917. It is about understanding the aspects of the local political culture at the beginning of the Republic period. Our research has as main sources: newspapers, government reports and messages and biographies of the governors of Mato Grosso.The proposed cutting for the internship abroad is to evaluate the documental sources, in special: newspapers, magazines and available mailing at the Oliveira Lima Library, in Washignton DC, intending to establish the constitutive elements of the political culture of the Republican Brazil in order to better understand the relations of power established between the government and the Brazilian states, in special with the state of Mato Grosso.
