Abstract

The aim of this clinical and microscopic study is to assess the possible effects due to the association of different bleaching techniques with carbamide and hydrogen peroxide through evaluation of the following response variables: enamel surface alterations and roughness. Twenty volunteers take part in this research. The highlighted factors are bleaching treatment using a 38% hydrogen peroxide non photocatalysed bleaching gel (Opalescence Boost PF - Bleaching Gel A), a 10% carbamide peroxide bleaching gel (Opalescence - Bleaching Gel B) and a placebo. The variables will be analyzed on incisors. Initially, the volunteers had their maxillary left and right hemi-arches submitted to three sessions of 15 minutes each with bleaching gel A and placebo gel (Phase 1), characterizing a split-mouth design. During the 7 days following Phase 1, the volunteers used the bleaching gel B, at home, for 4 hours a day (Phase 2); these clinical steps will be repeated once again in the next week. Alterations of enamel surface will be analyzed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) through clinically obtained replicas, obtained before and after all the bleaching procedures are done. , the surface roughness of the replicas will be measured by an interferometer (M1m Axio Imager, Carl Zeiss, Germany) and calculated by a software in three dimensions (3D Axio software, CarlZeiss, Germany), with data expressed as Sa (arithmetic average surface roughnessprofile 3D). Appropriate static test will be applied to interpret the results. (AU)
