Abstract

People Liturgy: cururu, a medieval songbook in Middle Tietê, São Paulo State. This doctoral proposal research aims at understanding the socio-anthropological universe that permeates the cururu, kind of improvised singing from the country culture in the region of Middle Tietê, in São Paulo, Brazil. Starting from the countryside of São Paulo State and the process of colonization on the continent we draw up an interpretation of cururu producers' reality from the civilizing meeting occurred between the indigenous people of South American and the population from Iberian Peninsula during the colonial period. The dimension of orality, music and singing along with the narrative of events guided by Christian values present in cururu is resulting from cultural synthesis of these peoples and from relationship of domination exercised by Jesuitical authorities as conveyers of knowledge "civilized" and civilizing. In a second historical moment, when capitalist way of production was consolidated, the group's socio-cultural practices are transformed in relation to this dynamic. Understanding the logic of domination don't exist without the dimension of the struggle it is necessary to assume the importance and historical sense that the Arab-European, indigenous and African heritages represent to countrymen that make cururu while popular cultural tradition at São Paulo, Brazil.
