Abstract This proposal aims to increase and improve the knowledgement of interstitial annelids at São Paulo State, with "watchful eyes" to Araçá Bay. This proposal will combine morphological and molecular techniques to answer questions on the systematics and phylogeny of the interstitial annelids, as well as to raise evolutionary hypothesis. Pictures, videos and habitats will represent each indetified, sequenced and georeferenced species. This proposal will also creat and establish a taxonomic collection of small and little known marine metazoan (meiofauna) in the Zoological Museum of Biology Institute at State University of Campinas (ZUEC/UNICAMP), with emphasis on interstitial annelids. This collection will be connected with the biological marine virtual database CIFONAUTA. In relation to scientific production, the results will be published regularly during the two years. In total, two taxonomic papers of interstitial annelid families, Protodrildiae and Saccocirridae, a publication about the molecular and morphological phylogeny of Saccocirridae and review about interstitial annelids from Brazil are predicted. The proposal also aims at creating expedite routines that unveil impregnated difficulties in the taxonomy of groups of small and poorly studied metazoan, as annelids, kinorhinchs, gastrotrichs and nemerteans. The proposed research line also aims at ameliorating the knowledge of biodiversity at this coastal region, and will open new perspectives for evolutionary and ecological studies, and conservation of interstitial envoriments from the State of São Paulo. | |
