Abstract

Thirty years after its reemergence, dengue has reached almost the entire country. Due to social and environmental characteristics, nearly the entire extent of the country is able for the diseases development. However, there are some clusters of municipalities that have never reported autochthonous cases. These counties are clustered in areas with characteristics (social and environmental) that are similar, showing a geographical fact which prevents or limits the expansion / consolidation of the disease in that area.We propose to name these areas of geographic diffusion barriers, which difficult the transmission of dengue in these clusters. In São Paulo there are four areas that have no cases of dengue and would fit in conceptualization of geographical barriers. In this way, we define as our research hypothesis that the geographic barriers of dengue diffusion in the State of São Paulo exist and can be identified and mapped. The aim of this project is to understand the process of spatial diffusion of dengue in the State of Sao Paulo and identifying their geographical barriers. To reach this aim we are going to define theoretically what geographical barriers to dengue fever diffusion would be, and then map the dengue fever diffusion in the state, creating preditive models of barriers for the analysis.
