Abstract

This work has as main objective verification of computer codes using as main tool the method of manufactured solutions. For this, the 1D convection-diffusion equation will be implemented using the finite difference method for discretization. Problems related to the quality of numerical results is always linked to the choice of the numerical methodology. Thus, a time integrator of Runge-Kutta fourth order is used and the study of the derivation of high order compact schemes for approximation of spatial derivatives is desirable. In addition, aiming at a lower computational cost, is applied the stretching technique. The programming language FORTRAN 90 is adopted for implementation. Verification of computer code is important because it indicates whether or not the implementation are solving the equations adopted right. In this sense, this project will assist the group of PhD students coordinated by Prof. Leandro Franco de Souza, that research in Computational Fluid Mechanics. The project will be conducted at the Laboratório de Matemática Aplicada e Ciências Computacional - LMACC located at the Instituto de Ciências Matemáticas e de Computação - ICMC/USP, where there will be availability of computers and softwares to conduct the research.
