Abstract

In the area of materials science there is an interest in finding new compounds with attractive visible light emission properties for the development of electro-optic devices or with high photocatalytic activities for the degradation of toxic dyes produced by the pigment or textile industries. For these reasons, this research project intends to investigate the morphological, photoluminescence and photocatalytic properties of pure and Mn, Cu and Zn-doped BaMoO4 and BaWO4 powders, which will be formed by the hot-injection and microwave-hydrothermal methods. In these syntheses, surfactants (cationic, anionic or polymeric) can be added to the liquid phase to control the particle size and shape. Theobtained powders will be characterized by X-ray diffraction and, Raman and infrared spectroscopies. The morphological characteristics of the crystals will be verified by means offield emission gun scanning electron microscopy and/or transmission electron. The opticalproperties of these materials will be investigated by ultraviolet visible (UV-vis) absorption spectroscopy and photoluminescence measurements. The photocatalytic properties (usingultraviolet radiation) will be analyzed through the UV-vis spectroscopy, where will be monitored the maximum absorption band of the organic dyes (rhodamine B and methyl orange) dissolved in aqueous solution.
