Abstract

The impact of cigarette smoke on allergic asthma remains controversial both clinically and experimentally. The objective of this study is to evaluate the role of dendritic cells in the immunomodulation induced by exposure to cigarette smoke in pulmonary allergic inflammation induced by ovalbumin. Mice will be sensitized and challenged with the antigen ovalbumin and co-exposed to cigarette smoke for thirty consecutive days. Twenty-four hours after the last challenge, we will evaluate the effect of cigarette smoke on allergic pulmonary inflammation induced by OVA by measuring: lung remodeling (deposition of collagen and elastin fibers around the airways), the profile of inflammatory in the lung, production of antigen-specific antibody (IgG1, IgE and IgG2a) as well as the production of inflammatory cytokines and modulating in lung homogenate.(AU)
