Analysis of behavior of the color in metal-free ceramic restorations evaluated by different methods: prospective clinical study

Abstract

In involving aesthetic ceramic restorations, color stability over time is desirable. However, there aren't prospective studies to elucidate the behavior of color to different factors, such as, darkened substrates and restoration's thickness, including the monitoring method used, because it remains a challenger. Purpose: to evaluate the color stability of ceramic restorations over teeth with esthetic demands, over 2 years of follow-up, in a prospective longitudinal clinical study. Photographs and videos will be analyzed by outside observers, and using a spectrophotometer. Materials and Methods: patients will be selected in order to have a total of 200 maxillary teeth that will be receive treatment with partial or full ceramic restorations, using two trademarks of resin cement. Measurements of color with spectrophotometer, digital photography and video recording will be made during treatment and periodic controls (30 days, 180 days, 1 year and 2 years after cementation). Groups formed by outside observers (patients, students of 1st and last year of undergraduate, graduate students, and experts) will evaluate randomly the images and videos obtained, according to questions about satisfaction with the aesthetics in each material. Results: all data obtained with the spectrophotometer will be subjected to statistical tests of normality that are applied to verify the significance between means (± = 0.05). Descriptive statistical analysis will be performed with the patient's demographics data, groups involved and their responses to the questionnaires in the different application times. (AU)
