Abstract

The proposed work will analyze the figurative, thematic and stylistic ´s process of the portuguese writer José Saramago in the works Manual of Painting and Calligraphy (1977) and Memories of my Youth (2006), seeking to highlight their similarities and differences by tracing the recurrent themes and figures in both works. For such, it will be considered the gender tensions installed in the autobiography when written by a novelist, as well as counterbalanced the two distinct moments in the author's production, in which respectively the referred works frame: "formative period" and "consolidation period". Furthermore, this project also intends to check the relation of both works with the Post- modernism esthetics guidelines. (AU)
