Abstract

The subject of this research is the "new technologies" art. To do so, our main reference is the work of the philosopher Jean-François Lyotard, specifically his writings on aesthetics. Lyotard's aesthetic theory is based on kantian aesthetics presented in the Critique of judgment, and, because of some assumption of Kant's aesthetics, an impasse arises when his theory confront with the conception of art grounded in computer technology. We intend, therefore, to study the Lyotard's interpretation of art since the avant-garde, retracing its route until the approach of the so-called post-modernity, in order to understand his critique of the products of new technologies. Thus, it is essential to understand not only the development of the concept of aesthetics sublime, but also the implications of this concept: Lyotard's aim was not only to interpret the modern art, was, also, to reaffirm a certain philosophical tradition. It is exactly when Lyotard reaffirm this tradition that the impasse regarding the new technologic art arises. Our research will try to define the relationship between Lyotard's aesthetic theory and new technologic art. But if this will lead us inevitably to certain impasses, we should propose and evaluate possible ways of interpretation for further studies.
