Abstract From 1860, two characters have become familiar to readers of the Semana Ilustrada: the Moleque and Dr. Semana, figures that have transformed synonymous of publication, circulated until 1876. The youngest of the pair was a young literate slave, always prepared to assist his white sir, a bizarre figure, endowed with big head, covered by a large mane and cultivated relationships with the elite and circulated freely on the court, which offered him opportunities to observe behaviors, monitor events and comment on them with his loyal companion. In the scene, approached most important news, the direction of imperial policy and denounced the bad habits and customs of society, always taking advantage of criticism and humor. The objective of the research is to identify key cultural elements that acted in character building of the pair, follow the way like them transformations over time and discuss the relationship between Dr. Semana and Moleque, shared, by sixteen, with readers. Given the longevity of the pair, who went through various moments of the Second Empire, the Moleque and Dr. Semana presents to the historian as an exciting source , that invites these to reflect on the logic of their actions and words, that were interwoven by paths to mood at the time. | |
