Abstract

The follicular development in bovine happens in a pattern of two or three waves perestral cycle. It is characterized by a synchronized development of many follicles, where only one will become dominant. The number of follicles that are recruited in each wave varies between animals; however it is very repeatable in each individual. Studies have showed that Bos indicus animals recruit more follicles than Bos taurus animals. This follicle population involves female fertility and can be associated with endocrine profiles and the expression of genes related to follicle recruitment. The goal of the present study is to quantify and classify ovarian follicles in Nelore (Bos indicus) e Aberdeen Angus (Bos taurus) cows. To do so, we will evaluate 10 sections of the ovary of each animal, fixed in paraffin and stained with eosin and hematoxylin. This project is part of a research grant (2011/50964-0) that is evaluating the hormonal concentrations, gene expression, and proteins involved in folliculogenesis.(AU)
