Abstract

The follicular development in bovine happens in a pattern of two or three waves perestral cycle. It is characterized by a synchronized development of many follicles, where onlyone will become dominant. The number of follicles that are recruited in each wave variesbetween animals; however it is very repeatable in each individual. Studies have showed thatBos indicus animals recruit more follicles than Bos taurus animals. This follicle populationinvolves the female fertility and can be associated with endocrine profiles and expression ofgenes related to follicle recruitment. The goal of the present study is to quantify and classifyovarian follicles in Nelore (Bos indicus) e Aberdeen Angus (Bos taurus) cows. To do so, wewill evaluate 10 sections of the ovary of each animal, fixel in parafin and stained with eosinand hematoxilin. This project is part of a research grant (2011/50964-0) that is evaluating thehormonal concentrations, gene expression and proteins involved in foliculogenesis.
