Abstract

Stocked carbon quantification in environmental as well its sensibility to climate changes or land use represents a research line in expansion. Amazon has a huge area as Podzol. This soil is characterized as thick sandy horizons overlying of clay horizons. Organic matter (OM) produced in surface is transferred through sandy horizon by percolated water. This material is cumulated in a depth ranging 1 to 3 meters between sandy and clay horizons resulting in a Podzol horizon (Bh horizon). Podzol can stock over 13.6 Pg of C in depths of the Bh horizons according to recent studies in the Amazon. The dryness of soils typically saturated could result in mineralization of partial or total OM in Bh horizon and consequently it results in large quantity of greenhouse-gas emission. This study will estimate C stock, CO2 emissions and vulnerability of Podzol in forest over different land uses and climate scenarios. To reach the goals will be require: (i) determine of C concentration in Podzol, (ii) quantify C mineralization through of microorganism ability to metabolize organic matter of soil; (iii) determine isotopic composition d13C in soil samples. Moreover, this study will evaluate potential of fluorescence spectroscopy to analyse organic matter properties in order to develop a less hard-working and lower cost alternative method for organic matter characterization.
